The Importance of Fire Doors

The key to passive fire protection is to contain the blaze within one space, giving occupants enough time to evacuate and authorities enough time to arrive on scene with equipment. A fire door is one of the most important fire safety products you can have on your premises. Due to their nature, fire doors are at a greater risk of damage and abuse. This can compromise the protection in your building.

Regular inspections and remediation can help prevent the need for replacement, ensuring your buildings remain compliant.

Risk Prioritisation

The performance of a fire door should be considered critical no matter where it is located. Deciding which parts of the building need repairs first can require  prioritisation.

Cotswold Fire offers a range of services to fulfill its approved protocols. If you are prioritising works, we can work with you and an appointed fire engineer to provide the best solution for each risk based on what type of doors they are (either escape routes or plant rooms). We offer full assessments of your doors and windows to identify risks in order to prioritise.

Existing Fire Door Remediation

Fire door maintenance is the application of industry-accepted techniques to reinstate a fire door's integrity, enabling it to function as originally intended in the event of a fire. While the best way to know for certain that a repair job on your windows and doors is correct would be to hire an accredited technician, unfortunately many older doors cannot be certified.

With their own survey process and bespoke software, Cotswold Fire carries out inspections and fixes for existing fire doors in the BRE/LPCB door remediation scheme LPS 1197.

We offer a range of innovative and cost-effective products to protect doors that reduce maintenance bills. Our installed protection products are designed, tested and proven to retain full integrity even after prolonged abrasion and impact. Typical locations for repairs would be:

  • Leaf gaps
  • Threshold gaps
  • Light leaf/frame damage
  • Hinges
  • Glazing
  • Door Hardware
  • Air Transfer Grilles
  • Door Closing Devices
  • Intumescent Strips
  • Signage

Aftercare

Doors can get beat up over time due to constant use. Fire doors in particular can be subject to early closure and fireback-door installation which causes the door not comply with regulation standards after an initial fitting or remediation event. Cotswold Fire provides an inspection and maintenance service for fire doors, taking into account their usage with on-going variation in inspection frequency.
